Botox and Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Botox injections have been used by doctors around the world as a safe and effective anti-wrinkle treatment.
Botox is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines.
It can also be used to uplift corners of the mouth, elevate the eyebrows or sometimes to reduce the vertical bands in the neck.
The effect is completely reversible and it generally lasts for three to six months.
To optimise the anti-aging effect, Botox injections can be combined with dermal fillers or other cosmetic procedures.
What is Botox?
Botox is a drug made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin.
It was initially used medically to treat certain muscular conditions, but researchers observed that botulinum had some very useful side effects.
Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can’t contract. That makes the wrinkles relax and soften.
Botox has been used for cosmetic reasons since 1996. According to DailyMail in the UK, there are over 1 million Botox injections carried out each year and this figure is rising fast.
In Ireland Botox injections can only be administered on prescription and only by medically trained doctors or dentists. Dr Cormac Reynolds now offers Botox injections at WQ Dental.
Frequently Asked Questions About Botox Injections
How soon can I see the results?
You will see the full results between 7 – 14 days after your treatment. It takes this time for the product to settle.
Are there any risks or side effects from anti-wrinkle treatments?
Most people don’t experience any side effects. However, a small percentage of people may experience headaches, bruising and/or pain at the site of injection. There is a risk of drooping of the eyelids and eyebrows but this happens in less than 1% of cases and corrects itself within a few months.
How long the effects of Botox injection last?
Each patient responds differently, but in general, Botox lasts between 3 and 6 months before the relaxing effect on the muscle wears off.
Will I look frozen after the treatment?
No. We study your facial musculature and administer the right amount of product for you, for the most natural and subtle of results. The ‘frozen’ or unnatural appearance you sometimes see on celebrities happens as a result of over-treatment.
How much do Botox injections cost?
Prices vary depending on the number of areas you’d like to have treated. Prices start from €190. There are of course cost savings on the treatment of multiple areas together.
